Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the most versatile cosmetic dentistry treatments that we offer at our Hamilton practice. Many celebrities actually have porcelain veneers in place to get those perfect-looking smiles, but the results are so good that you don’t even know that they’re there. In fact, when you get porcelain veneers, all anyone will notice is how wonderful your smile looks. Whether you’re outdoors or indoors, whether it’s daylight, moonlight, or artificial light, porcelain veneers look just like your natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of a special dental ceramic. They are used to address chips, stains, cracks, and minor unevenness or misalignment. During the porcelain veneers procedure, a very small amount of tooth material (roughly one-half millimeter) is removed from the front portion of the tooth. This is so that the porcelain veneer can be attached. The porcelain veneer is then firmly adhered to the tooth and positioned so it looks completely natural.

Caring for your porcelain veneers is as simple as maintaining good dental hygiene: brush at least twice a day, floss regularly, and be sure to visit us twice a year for your regular checkups. The results are so startling that some have called porcelain veneers “instant orthodontics.”

Opalescence Teeth Whitening

There are many different substances that can cause your smile to become discolored or stained. Tobacco products can be particularly harmful to your teeth, for instance (which is just another reason to quit). Common beverages such as coffee, cola, tea, and red wine can lead to staining over time, and so can foods such as curries, beets, and blueberries. Even the natural aging process can result in teeth that are not as white as they could be.

That may be why one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments at our Hamilton practice is Opalescence teeth whitening. This teeth whitening procedure is far more effective than the over-the-counter whitening products that you can pick up at the local store. The Opalescence teeth whitening procedure is simple. After your teeth have been cleaned, the initial impressions are taken to fabricate the custom fitted bleaching trays. Once made, a second appointment is planned for insertion and instructions and for 1 hour a day for two weeks a whitening gel is carefully applied in the trays delivering to the teeth. During this time, patients can just sit back and relax. It’s just that simple; it’s just that convenient.

Tooth Colored Fillings

In the past, metal fillings were the norm if you had cavities. We still provide metal fillings but with advances in dentistry we now offer white or tooth coloured fillings.  These composite restorations are better indicated for certain situations like aesthetic zones or areas where retention is minimal and bonding is required.

It’s for the above cosmetic reasons that we offer tooth-colored fillings as dental restorations. These white fillings blend in seamlessly with the rest of the structure of a tooth. When they are set in place, no one will know that they’re there.

The procedure for placing tooth-colored fillings is essentially the same as the procedure for placing metal fillings. The difference, however, is that less tooth structure needs to be removed to place a tooth-colored filling than a metal filling. This means that more of the actual tooth is left intact, which is better for the patient in the long run.

Invisalign®

Crooked teeth can be a real hassle, but for many people, braces can be a real hassle as well. The brackets and wires can be cumbersome and uncomfortable, and some people feel that they can be just as unsightly as misaligned teeth. There is an alternative to braces to consider, however. This alternative is free from the brackets and wires and is great for adults as well as teens. This alternative is known as Invisalign®, a great orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry treatment which we’re happy to offer at our Hamilton practice.

The Invisalign® system consists of a series of custom-made aligners that patients wear at all times save or when eating, drinking, or cleaning their teeth. These aligners are made of a clear plastic, which means that no one will notice them. They are, in effect, invisible braces. Patients will receive a new Invisalign® aligner every two weeks so that their teeth can be gradually shifted into proper position.

If you have a major social engagement, no worries–the Invisalign® aligners can be taken out for that occasion. It’s this easiness on the eyes, effectiveness, and overall convenience that makes Invisalign® so popular.
